Sick probz
So... I’m in a bit of an automotive transition period coming up in the next few months.
For one; I own a VW golf TDI:
When i first bought the TDI. shit pic though
Which as you all know by now will be sold back to VW. When I sell it back (barring any extreme mileage adjustments) I’ll get around 21k back for the thing! I can even scratch it up, not care about washing it, maintaining it, etc; as long as it gets to the dealer under it’s own power, they have to buy it back. I suppose there are some details that will be ironed out this October, when the judge gives the final ruling, but I suspect the “under it’s own power” thing will be true to its word.
Secondly, I’m selling this:
Malibu canyon roads are the best thing about living in LA
In order to fund a more powerful/better hwy speed motorcycle.
I’ve been looking at Ducati Hypermotard 1100sp evo (xtreme right!), monster 798, z1000, s1000r, maybe the Africa Twin... who knows.
But I guess the main question is. What’s a solid motorcycle pick for more power than a WR with better comform/handling? I like the upright-ness of my WR, and the comfort of riding those style bikes is better than supersport bikes, so no supersports. Also, I don’t want something insane to insure, but I suspect being 26, male, and single; that doesn’t get me any points with insurance companies.
Also, I’ll need another car when I sell the VW. I’ve looked at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , which I decided against, then subsequently, E90 M3's, because they are fun and I wouldn’t use it as a DD that much (that’s the motorcycles job more so). Also thinking about an Outback, grand cherokee, or X5 or something with space for climbing trips and people/don’t have to worry about having to keep it pristine. I’ll be getting my next car used, and from Carmax, because Doug DeMuro. Again thoughts on that. Any other recommendations on a car? I don’t really even want a car to be honest, but it’s good to have in case of long distance travel or bringing things with me.
Thankssssssss.

1. BMW F 800 GS, put street tires on it.
2. Late 2000's Subaru Forester. (if birth control was a car....)

My main question for the bike choice is do you do dirt riding? As in anything more extreme than dirt/gravel roads. If no then I’d go for any one of the sport-naked bikes. Some of my favorites
Suzuki SV650
Yamaha XSR900/FZ-09
Ducati Scrambler/Monster/Hypermotard
KTM Duke
Triumph Street/Speed Triple

Yeah, I bought the WR thinking I’d ride more offroad. But that’s not the case. Been looking at the FZ-09 too. It’s affordable but the insurance on new bikes is crazy, at least for me. There’s an 08 1100s Hypermotard that’s for sale, where the insurance isn’t bad; but then again, that’s an 8 year old Ducati. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/5794439292.html

F800R, R1200R, SV650, the VFR800s (fantasticly comfortable bikes)
I am unfamiliar with your past bike history, but most of those bike that you listed are a straight GIANT jump in horsepower. be warned
you plan on DD’ing it? thats the italians out. MAYBE a duke 690? or a triumph street triple.

I second the SV650. They’re a great value, a good looker, reliable and pretty comfy for tall folk like me.
It’s hard to beat the Subaru Outback... My wife had a 2014 model as a company car until about 3 weeks ago. It was fairly bland, but better in every conceivable way than the 0-mile 2016 RAV4 that replaced it. Words cannot express my contempt for the RAV4, but I’ll be nice because free car. The Subaru had very comfy seats, a ludicrous amount of room everywhere, very good mileage, and had petty decent handling (especially compared to the vagueness of the RAV4). Yeah, it had a CVT, but the Subaru CVT is far better than a Nissan CVT at least. The stupid RAV4 has a 6 speed auto that feels even more vague and characterless than a CVT. I miss that Outback!

Past bike history is a WR450 for offroad only. And my current WR250R for DD/enjoyment. I’d like to have more power, but not opposed to going into the 600-800 range. The duke looks interesting, i’ll have to look more into that.

Aprilia Dorsoduro could be another option on top of what nonster suggested.
As for the car, there are lots of cool and fun wagons out there. I personally avoid Subaru after some run ins with their reliability, and I think they’re stupid to work on.
As for carmax, their good and all but most reputable dealerships will have customer service and warranty options that are just as good. No reason to rule out other sellers without doing further research into them.

I’ve been lusting after a Triumph Street Triple R for a while, but I’m quite fond of my “poor man’s monster” (kinja ate the pic, but it was of my 07 SV650)
My buddy has a Hypermotard SP and its a sexy beast. Sadly I struggle to get it off its side stand thanks to the super tall seat height and my short legs

even a 75HP SV650 will run a low 12 seconds quarter mile time and do the 0-60 hustle in 3.5 seconds. you would need something in the 4-500HP range to keep up.
see if you can take a couple of test rides. and dont whiskey throttle :D

True, a CPO car from any dealer could be a good choice too. CarMax is just convenient.
As for the Subaru reliability, I understand what you mean. At least from owning an 04' WRX, oil leaks and random issues. Doing spark plugs on that thing sucked so much too.
Aprilias look pretty similar to Ducatis! That’s cool. Do you know much about the Shiver? http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2014-Aprilia-SHIVER-750-119489084

Not really, but didn’t it use the same engine as the dorsoduro? The guy I know who has one said it hasn’t had any issues at all and he rides it pretty hard, don’t remember the miles though.
